Are you having trouble putting together a 12-person team to run a Ragnar? Don't want to sleep in a van? The ultra sprint maybe the run for you. You don't even need a van if you have an ultra team of three!
One of the major considerations with a Ragnar race is the price. Finding 12 people to run with you as a challenge. We chose to run it with a three-person team and do the sprint. Sleeping in a van, No renting a van. Just no van!
We used our Jeep and had plenty of room as it were just three of us and our gear.
A planning consideration is do you want to run four legs each or two doubles. We chose to run two doubles and is what we recommend. We moved to the station where we did not exchange and we're ready to refill the runner's water by swapping out water bottles. This way we had approximately 10 miles to run total and where our own water stations.
Have two fast friends? That's another reason to do the ultra sprint. There are so many categories in the ultra sprint, It's nice to see your name or in our case, our team's name listed as a winner. It wasn't our goal, and even though we're yet to receive a prize, we don't even care. We can go back next year and say that we were last year's champions!
Overall we ran more miles than a regular Ragnar relay, as we each did four legs in total instead of three. It was a great challenge and we look forward to going back to doing a full Ultra
Michael Vaughan Update changing my rating, as the ultra team that won our division I will never do this race again. At the completion of the race they said they'd mail us our prize and my team members refuse to come back as they never sent us anything and ignore our emails. Ragnar your other races are good but this race director has done you dirty.
