I hate to say I actually like the shoe better than the rocket x2s. Don't get me wrong. I'm not nearly as fast in these shoes. The fit, material and comfort is outstanding. This is now my new daily trainer.
For those who love data, get about 200 to 250 mi out of pair of shoes. So I wore these for 25 miles giving me a about a 10% wear ratio.
My mock floors have 220 mi on them. Whereas we all run a little different, comparing the wear patterns, It is barely noticeable with the new reinforced soul. This is going to give me more life out of these shoes. I might even be able to push them into the 300 up to 400 mi range like my Cliftons!
In comparing the shoe to other hokas, It doesn't have the heel issue that the rocket X2 does. (X2 heel is very thin. Wears a little bit). Super comfortable. Easy to get on.
The carbon X series, tongue has a tendency to cut into some people's feet, especially in the X1 and x2. The gusseted tongue fixes this issue. I water them in the rain, and running in lovely Florida summer heat. No Blisters, right out the box. Little to no break in time!
If you're going to use a carbon fiber shoe for race day, I recommend using a super trainer for training.
If you're unfamiliar with this type of plate, here is a summary from the Pebax site.
"UNRIVALED PERFORMANCE
Compared to other materials on the market like EVA or TPU, a special characteristic of Pebax® polymers is what is referred to as a "low energy loss" as seen in this hysteresis curve. This essentially means that when the polymer is stretched, it is highly efficient at storing and then returning that same energy when the stress is relaxed, for an explosive feeling at your feet !"
