The Sixth Annual Blazing Paddles Paddlefest is a celebration of Cleveland’s hardworking, scenic, and historic Cuyahoga River. In partnership with the Cuyahoga River Safety Task Force, industrial stakeholders, affiliate organizations, Cuyahoga River Water Trail partners, North Coast Multisports, and Blazing Paddles Paddlefest sponsors, Share the River is providing two opportunities to enjoy Blazing Paddles Paddlefest. Please note we have modified our course from previous years (removing the upper “industrial segment” leading to Cleveland-Cliffs).
You can enjoy a relaxed paddle journey of the historic and scenic Cuyahoga River where the Dave Vasarhelyi Memorial Recreational Paddle & Float will take you on a curvy, 6.1 (1 lap) or 12.2 mile (2 laps) urban waterfront journey that flows past a unique mix of bridges and riverfront sites where iconic pyramids of sand and stone stand in contrast to paved paths and greenspaces. At the Main Ave. Bridge turnaround, Cleveland Fire Department’s Garrett A. Morgan fireboat will greet paddlers with a water cannon salute! (Get map).
You can race Cleveland’s hard-working waterfront over one of three race distances (3.75, 6.1 & 12.2-miles).
Paddlers will depart/recover from Cleveland Metroparks’ Merwin’s Wharf docks at Rivergate Park (g). There will be no put-in or take-out at Cleveland Rowing Foundation docks. Paddlers will enjoy exclusive access to the Cuyahoga River for 4 1/2 hours to enjoy a morning of industrial strength fun:
PLEASE register early. Kayak rentals are still available. We will have one put-in and take-out site at Rivergate Park/Cleveland Metroparks Merwin’s Wharf. Pre-registration closes on September 14, 2024. Same day registration will be subject to a $40.00 convenience fee. All proceeds will go to support our "We Paddle the City" program.
