For most of my marathons I've been wearing CWX compression tights. Love those tights, But they have only one key pocket which means I have to wear a belt or some other type of gel holding device. This may be a near perfect if not perfect half marathon short! Pockets that are easy to take items in and out of while running. Super comfortable and no chafing. **I will hopefully update this as I try further distance in hotter weather**
As this is all about pockets, The pockets score is 7 out of 8.
4 Gel pockets: I tested them by taking the gels out of the pockets and putting them back in. (I lost you can gel during Boston Marathon and don't want it to happen again). Tested these shorts on a 5K in the neighborhood and a 5K group trail run.(So that I had to be focused on what I was doing). The Maurten gels, I could totally fit two gels per pocket, But was afraid I'd lose one when I pull from the pocket. Not the case at all. Did the same test with the UCAN gels. Just because you can get away with putting two gels in a gel pocket doesn't mean it's a good idea, But if you need to carry eight gels it's doable.
Also tested taking out the ketone IQ, acting like I took a half a shot, was easily able to put it back in the pocket. Same with the gels.
Side pockets: I was concerned with my little 5 oz flip top (which sometimes I'll put two gels in so I don't have to carry two, I was worried about chafing, no problems. Easily fits a phone for easy access taking it in and out. Was able to comfortably hold my 12 oz water bottle, although on the drive to the run, I kept hitting the bite valve: That's more of a water bottle issue and not the shorts.
Key pocket: I didn't even notice I had my giant key. Most importantly no chafing.
Phone zipper pocket: this is the one that I didn't like. Easily able to take my giant pixel in and out of my pocket while running. But as many of these pockets, I just don't like the feel of where the phone settles. I would however throw two gels in there, leaving one of the gel pockets for my salt tabs.
Are two cons really, not enough compression, and the price.
You absolutely get what you pay for, compression shorts are also not cheap. I was able to find a discount code from a podcast they support. (The Ally G show)
I'm not a super fan of the lining, But it did not give any chafing issues.
