I completed my first IndyMini this May. This was my second half marathon, so I don’t have a ton to compare it to, but I wanted to share my thoughts.
The race created a fun, high energy environment and did a great job of making the runners feel encouraged & supported. It was a flat, easy course that took you from downtown to Speedyway where you ran a lap on the famous Indy 500 track, then back to downtown. While there were some fun, iconic sites along the way, the course did have you running through a “rough” part of town that felt a little dirty but safe, due to a strong law enforcement presence. There were multiple bands and entertainers set up along the course that kept the energy high throughout. Overall, I enjoyed this race. I did feel it was overcrowded and found myself having to weave through the crowd which I know impacted my time.
Kim Bezilla I totally agree with this review!! I have run several half marathons and a handful of marathons. This was my first Indy Mini and this was my daughter’s first half marathon (I paced her because she had a goal time). Unfortunately, I told her things would thin out after a couple of miles or so based on my experience with half and full marathons but that did not happen. She was a bit frustrated with that. We just made her goal time and we actually ran more than 13.1 because of all the weaving.
We did have a really fun experience and there were a lot of positives from the race.
Again, I agree with everything in Nicole’s review!!!
