BMER includes three races, 50 mile, 50k and 25k and is one of the most scenic, toughest and best spring mountain ultra in the East. The course is stunning with challenging climbs, some technical some more runnable. The out-and-back course always changes and has more runnable sections followed by more technical sections. The climbs are challenging, with the longest on the 50 mile and 25K course being about 5.5 miles long. The race begins with less than a mile on pavement: the rest of the race is in the George Washington National Forest trail system. The course is 65% single-track, about 30% jeep and gravel road and less than 5% pavement. All three races are UTMB qualifiers. The start/finish is located at Shenandoah Acres, where cabins are available.

I had the best time at Bel Monte 25k in VA. It was a hard climb but gravity did its thing on the descent. Lots of big rock that made it hard to fly down the mountain but lots of fun.
Very beautiful & very technical race thru the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA. The 25K has 2,541 feet of gain & loss on single / double track trails, Jeep road (w/ so many rocks), gravel & pavement. Love the soft SS tee and matching finishers medal!
