Summary

Absolutely delicious vegan protein from a company that has pretty much won the full disclosure game on the label. While it's not 100 percent grit-free, it's very minimal and the least I've found so far in a vegan shake.

Other Ghost Vegan Protein Review

As a vegetarian who is always hunting for protein sources, pea protein shakes have been a lifesaver. I've tried a ton of them with varying results. The significant issues I've found with most pea protein shakes are the grit, the taste, and the fiber. Starting with fiber, we runners know why a high fiber content can be an issue. It's an essential part of our diets, but not before a run. You don't want to have to be rushing to a bathroom in the middle of your 20-mile training run. Ghost Vegan Protein has just 2 grams per service, 110 calories, and 20 grams of protein. It also has 6 grams of carbs, and we need those.

I've made this in a Nutribullet, and I have to say, it mixes very quickly. I find that it only takes a blitz of about 10 seconds. There is a tiny bit of grit, but compared to the ones I've tried before, it wins hands down. Add in the fact that we're not talking about a gluten-based protein shake and it's pretty fantastic.

The flavor I tried is Cinnabon. It's Cinnabon-branded, though there are no cinnamon rolls involved here. They have a cute message about it on the jar. However, they do use Cinnabon's makara Cinnamon powder for flavoring. While no one is going to say this is the same as eating a gooey cinnamon roll, the taste is really fantastic. More so than I expected.

I really want to point out the label here. There is a protein breakdown (pea protein, organic pumpkin protein, watermelon seed protein), with info on how much there is and how much it delivers. There is no soy, no veggie spiking (meaning they're not putting cheaper proteins in to get a higher rating), and no gluten. (As a gluten-intolerant person, I sometimes find that even gluten-free things sometimes cause tummy issues, and Ghost doesn't.) The label even shows you the fill level and what it looks like when it settles.

The only real fly in the ointment is that the price is pretty high. Currently, on Amazon, it's $49.99, and that's for 28 servings. It might not be sustainable as a daily protein shake if you're strapped for cash or have more than one runner in your household.
